The design of the lounge is a reflection of the artist and architect El Lissitzky's work. The geometric shapes from his paintings are mirrored in the interior design, creating a sense of direction and movement. This is further accentuated by a large mirror wall at the end of the lounge, making the movement appear infinite. The ceiling, a representation of El Lissitzky's graphic art, is an imposing feature that adds to the overall aesthetic of the lounge.
The lounge, measuring approximately 730 sqm with a ceiling height of 3.5 to 5.5 m, is designed with sustainability in mind. The materials used are natural and sustainable, and the design itself is timeless and iconic. The layout of the lounge offers an open space with enough privacy for each visitor, whether they want to relax, work, or dine. The facade provides a beautiful view of the airport platform, with special relax seats for added comfort.
The design process involved creating a 3D model as the base for the ceiling's form and dimensions. The construction columns are part of the total design approach, with the ceiling elements repeating several times. This construction is optimal for installing the HVAC installation and LED lighting. A special metal construction principle was produced to position the ceiling elements at the correct height and shape.
The design was not without its challenges. The goal was to create an oasis of tranquility within the hectic everyday life at the international airport of Moscow. Despite the demand for more than 160 seats, the lounge needed to be inviting and offer space for every individual. By creating zones and integrating the architectural columns, M+R Interior Architecture was able to create a space that meets the requirements and also offers sufficient space.
The El Lissitzky lounge is not just a testament to M+R Interior Architecture's innovative design approach but also a recognition of their commitment to sustainability and timeless design. The lounge was awarded Golden in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creation that advances art, science, design, and technology.
